Apple-Strawberry Steel Oats

Fresh fruit takes this breakfast to a new level.  I like to make a larger batch of oats so I have the cooked portion ready for future use.  Oats freeze well.  By the way – eating through the layers is the best part.

Apple-Strawberry Steel Oats

Ingredients:
4 cups of water
1 orange, juiced
1-1/3 cup of steel oats
2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce – for each serving
4 strawberries, sliced – for each serving
1 Tbsp brown sugar or stevia (to taste) – for each serving
1/4 cup of milk (dairy, almond, soy), if desired – for each serving
Garnish Options – 1 Tbsp of flax seed, hemp seed, nuts of your choice – for each serving

Directions:

1.  Place 4 cups of water in saucepan and heat to boiling.
2.  Add steel oats and stir.  Turn heat down to low for 7-8 minutes.
3.  Add orange juice and cinnamon.  Stir well to incorporate.  Continue to cook for another 13-15 minutes or until thickened.

To Serve:

1.  Place 3/4 cup of cooked oats in bowl.
2.  Spoon applesauce on top
3.  Sprinkle sweetener over top
4.  Add strawberries
5.  Add nuts or seeds
6.  Add milk, if desired
7.  Most important – Enjoy
