Country Biscuits

This biscuit recipe goes together quickly and is a crowd pleaser.  It is very versatile and can be changed up by adding shredded cheddar cheese and garlic (similar to what Red Lobster serves) or savory by adding herbs and shallots/green onion. They work well with a meal or a nice sweet snack by adding a fruit spread of your choice.

  1. 2 -1/4 cups White Spelt Flour or flour of your choice
  2. 3 tsp Baking Powder
  3. 1 tsp Salt
  4. 1 Tbsp Sugar
  5. 1 Egg Slightly Beaten
  6. 1/2 cup Butter, cold - cut into cubes-
  7. 2/3 cup Milk of your choice - I use unsweetened almond milk
  1. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl; stir well. Cut in butter with pastry cutter or mixer until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  2. Combine egg and milk; add to flour mixture, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a floured surface, and knead 3 or 4 times.
  3. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 3-inch biscuit cutter. Score decorative marks with knife or fork tines, if desired. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until biscuits are golden.
  4. Remove baking sheet from oven; brush hot biscuits with melted butter.
